Maddie Update - May 31st 2007

Such "fun".

Well, we've been told you either get a great eater who doesn't sleep well, or a great sleeper who doesn't eat well.
We got the latter.

BUT, she's definitely showing some family traits with all this reflux drama. (Mommy, Nana, Uncle Nick, Pappy, we all have tummy troubles. How sweet of her to take after us!)

We just switched medicines and formulas, so we'll see how that goes. BUT she's quite happily taking cereal, fruits, and veggies now, so that helps a lot with growing a strong baby. She especially likes peaches, peas, and sweet potatoes. We'll be trying those "interesting" jars of meat shortly, and then on to stage 2 foods!

She's learning to put herself to sleep for naps and bedtime very well, and she's is rollin' everywhere. She creeps (pre-crawls) in a circle, and inches backwards every now and then. The baby gates are going up ASAP. She loves to shriek and see the reaction it gets from people (Mommy and Daddy are immune now.) She's getting very attached to us, and if you leave her alone in the room, boy do you hear about it! She loves to sit in her high chair, play with toys, and watch you make dinner. She's great at manipulating toys and gets vocal when you take away one of her favorites. She's still very happy and smiley and responds to her name when you call her. We took her swimming in the pool for the first time yesterday and she really seemed to love it- kicking and splashing everywhere! She's our growing girl!

Shannon is away this week - her sister, our cousin Tara is getting married in Georgia! (Congrats Tara!!!) So Maddie has a host of babysitters this week and next:
Monday: Memorial Day - Mommy & Daddy off!
Tuesday: Shannon Day
Wednesday: Daddy Day
Thursday: Mommy Day
Friday: Gramy Day
(weekend)
Monday: Nana & Pop Day
Tuesday: Aunt Laura in the morning, Mommy in the afternoon.

Daddy got out the camera yesterday afternoon, and look at the cute results!

Maddie Week of 5-14-07

Maddie Week of 5-07-07

3 New Videos

Sorry for the lack of blog correspondence lately.

3 new videos for you long-distance (or not so long-distance) types.

1. Maddie loves to roll. Especially when we lay her on her back to sleep. Then she takes special pleasure in rolling onto her tummy and getting mad about the situation.

2. She re-discovered the Aquarium gym, and now very much appreciates the easy-to-rip-off fish. We have to watch her with those, because they're pretty heavy and the first time she ripped one off she whacked herself in the head pretty hard! (Design flaw?) Still loves that mirror though!

3. Mmmm! Peaches!

5 Months, 1 Week & 6 Days old update

Just a health update. Maddie's been having trouble eating the amount of formula her pediatrician thinks she should be getting, and after a visit to Dr. Lerch we've confirmed that it's acid reflux again. He increased the amount of Zantac we give her and we're watching her eating closely. She was on track growth-wise at her appointment on Monday: 16 lbs. 5 oz. and 26 inches long, still healthy as a horse. (A little congested though. Perhaps allergies like Mommy & Daddy?) Dr. Lerch had us increase the amount of cereal we give her too. It gets formula into her and it helps her tummy problems. We also switched her up to a fast bottle nipple and that makes feedings easier. We've seen a slight increase in the amount that she eats since Monday. If she's not showing a marked improvement in 10 days she'll have to see a pediatric GI doctor and have an upper GI procedure to really check on her tummy.

Maddie has also ventured into the world of green vegetables bravely and has tackled peas like a pro. She eats them like a champ, and we're very excited to keep trying veggies and to move on to fruits shortly.

Except when the reflux bothers her she's still quite happy and hearty. She's rolling back to front and front to back and she looks like she's getting ready to try creeping along (eary crawling) very soon. She's VERY motivated to grab those toys! She still loves loves LOVES the Jumperoo - good excercise for crazy-kicky legs!

She's still doing well at Shannon's during the day, and she's sleeping quite well at night. Mommy and Daddy dread the day when they'll have to attempt to take the paci away, because WOW does it help her sleep fast! Hopefully she'll outgrow the need on her own. We're definitely not making any paci-stealing until summer.
